Deschamps leaves World Cup squad for mother's funeral, misses Norway

France manager Didier Deschamps has flown back to France after his mother died on Tuesday morning, meaning he will miss the upcoming World Cup fixture for the French side. The decision was taken on Tuesday, as the tournament entered its group stage, and the French squad will continue without their long‑time coach.

Deschamps left the French national team camp on Tuesday during the World Cup. His departure came before the final group match.

He travelled back to France immediately after leaving the squad. The coach arrived in France on Tuesday.

Deschamps stated he intended to attend his mother’s funeral. The funeral was scheduled for Tuesday morning.

He will miss the final group match against Norway. The match against Norway remains the team's last group game.
