Earthquake shakes England camp before Costa Rica warm-up

England's training camp in West Palm Beach was shaken by an earthquake on the day before their final World Cup warm-up against Costa Rica. The tremor measured 6.1 magnitude. The quake originated off the west coast of Cuba and was the strongest in the region for 150 years. It was felt across Florida’s Flagler County, as well as in Orlando and Miami, prompting evacuations of several buildings. Authorities reported no tsunami risk to the United States. A US Geological Survey spokesperson said aftershocks are expected. England have been training in Florida since arriving last week. Under manager Thomas Tuchel they beat New Zealand 1‑0 in Tampa, the goal coming from a Harry Kane header, and they will face Costa Rica in Orlando on Wednesday evening. After the warm-up, the squad will move to their main World Cup base in Kansas City, Missouri. Their Group L opening match against Croatia will be played in Arlington, just outside Dallas on 17 June. Subsequent group games are scheduled against Ghana in Boston on 23 June and Panama in New Jersey on 27 June. A potential last‑16 encounter could see England travel to Mexico City to meet co‑host Mexico. Mexico is co-hosting the 2026 World Cup with the United States and Canada.
