Elliot Anderson’s £116m City switch won’t distract his World Cup aim
England midfielder Elliot Anderson is set to join Manchester City for a reported £116 million fee, but teammate Jarell Quansah says the transfer will not distract Anderson’s focus on winning the World Cup as England prepare for their Group L finale against Panama.
Since his debut last September, Anderson has become a key part of Thomas Tuchel’s England side. He impressed on his major tournament bow as England beat Croatia 4‑2 and later started the 0‑0 draw with Ghana.
Quansah told talkSPORT that Anderson remains fully focused on winning the World Cup. "I see a player that’s fully focused on what he wants, and I think at the moment what he wants is to win a World Cup," he said.
England face full‑back dilemma as Reece James skips Panama prep
Quansah highlighted Anderson’s versatility, noting he has played a deeper six role and occasionally an eight this season. He recalled Anderson’s earlier wing position at Bristol Rovers and praised the attributes that suit England’s midfield. The agreement to sign Anderson from Nottingham Forest is said to be worth £116 million. A medical is reportedly scheduled for when the England squad arrives in the Tri‑State Area. Thomas Tuchel faces squad decisions ahead of the Group L match, with Declan Rice under assessment after limping off at Gillette Stadium. Reece James is a major doubt, and Tino Livramento’s departure opens the possibility for Quansah to cover right‑back. A Bayer Leverkusen defender described his potential World Cup debut as "a dream come true". He said playing for England would be a massive honour and something he looks forward to.
