Haaland tells Bernardo Silva: 'See you in the semi-finals' after Madrid move

🇬🇧 yesterday

Erling Haaland responded to Bernardo Silva’s move to Real Madrid with a cryptic message that immediately became the headline reaction. The Norwegian striker, who played alongside Silva at Manchester City, posted on social media: “See you in the semi-finals.”

The Portuguese midfielder’s arrival at Real Madrid triggered a wave of welcomes from teammates, former colleagues and rivals. Kylian Mbappé, who shared a dressing room with Silva at Monaco, wrote: “Welcome to the best club in the world.”

Real Madrid’s Brazilian forwards also joined the chorus. Rodrygo posted: “Welcome, star.” Vinícius Júnior added: “Welcome, brother.”

Haaland’s message stood out for its brevity and implied future competitive context. Having played alongside Silva for multiple seasons at Manchester City, the Norwegian’s comment suggested a potential future showdown between Real Madrid and Manchester City.

The rivalry between the two clubs has intensified in recent Champions League campaigns. Supporters quickly interpreted Haaland’s words as a reference to a possible semi-final clash in Europe’s premier competition.

Bernardo Silva’s first appearance since the transfer did not go as planned. Starting for Portugal in their World Cup opener against DR Congo, he was substituted at half-time.

An early yellow card disrupted his rhythm, and Silva struggled to influence the match from the right wing. He completed 17 of his 18 passes and made four into the final third, but rarely posed a goal threat.

Portugal’s disciplined defensive block limited Silva’s impact despite his technical contributions. His 23 touches and 17 completed passes reflected his usual control, yet the team failed to break down DR Congo’s structure.

Real Madrid’s coaching staff will view one underwhelming performance as an anomaly rather than a concern. The club’s investment in Silva reflects long-term confidence in his ability to adapt and deliver in elite competitions.

The transfer has already generated global discussion, with Haaland’s message adding a layer of intrigue to the narrative surrounding Silva’s new chapter at Real Madrid.
