Liverpool eye Porto midfielder Victor Froholdt, £70m clause

Liverpool are monitoring Porto’s 20‑year‑old Denmark international Victor Froholdt as part of their summer rebuild under manager Andoni Iraola. The midfielder carries a £70 million release clause, and his profile has already attracted interest from several Premier League clubs across Europe.

TeamTalk reported that “Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Brighton and Newcastle United are among the clubs closely monitoring the 20‑year‑old’s development.” This list shows Liverpool are not alone in tracking Froholdt.

Froholdt joined Porto from FC Copenhagen last summer. His rapid progress has placed him on the radar of multiple Premier League clubs.

Alexis Mac Allister remains under contract until 2028, with no new deal negotiations reported. Curtis Jones’s contract runs to 2027, and Inter Milan have been linked to a potential £26 million move for him.

Liverpool are also linked to FC Nordsjælland midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi, who is impressing Ghana at the World Cup. TeamTalk noted “Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle are all understood to be aware of the Ghanaian’s progress, highlighting just how highly regarded both players have become among Europe’s leading recruitment departments.”

Richard Hughes has previously acted boldly in the market, signing Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike last summer to add centre‑forward depth. He may now turn his attention to midfield, where Froholdt and Yirenkyi present early‑stage targets.

Liverpool’s interest suggests a strategy of securing talent before market prices soar, even though a £70 million clause is steep for a 20‑year‑old who only moved to Porto last season. Release clauses are typically starting points rather than final prices.

Under Andoni Iraola, the squad will need energy, reliability and tactical flexibility. Froholdt’s profile of physicality and intelligence aligns with those requirements.
