Liverpool launch €50m talks for Eduardo Camavinga

Liverpool have opened €50 million talks to sign 23‑year‑old midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, with Michael Edwards driving the effort after a five‑year pursuit, despite Real Madrid’s reported intention to sell the Frenchman this summer.

Michael Edwards may no longer hold the title of sporting director at Liverpool, but he remains among the decision‑makers at Anfield. His influence was evident with the arrivals of Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, players he pursued before they eventually joined the club.

Edwards first tried to sign Eduardo Camavinga in 2020 as the French midfielder prepared to leave Rennes. At that time Camavinga’s contract was expiring, and his future destination was uncertain.

Real Madrid intervened and secured Camavinga’s signature, beginning a five‑year period in which the player has struggled to cement a regular place. Each transfer window since then has sparked speculation about a possible sale.

Sport Real Madrid actively aim to sell Camavinga this summer to raise funds for a new midfielder. The 23‑year‑old has indicated he is not eager to leave and is prepared to contest any move.

Liverpool have been named as having already inquired about Camavinga, launching potential negotiations. The club view the midfielder as a solution to the defensive‑midfield void that hampered them last season, and his age suggests a long‑term option.

If the talks progress, the summer could see Liverpool finally acquire a player they have tracked for nearly six years. The outcome will shape Liverpool’s midfield strategy ahead of the next campaign.
