Liverpool target winger Yankuba Minteh over Diomande

Liverpool are expected to pursue Premier League winger Yankuba Minteh rather than Ivorian attacker Yan Diomande, after Leipzig’s high asking price for Diomande. A budget of around £40 million has been earmarked for the 21‑year‑old Brighton prospect. Yan Diomande has impressed at RB Leipzig in his first top‑five league season, playing on both flanks and ranking among the league’s best performers. Leipzig consider his fee “extortionate”, prompting Liverpool to reconsider their target. Yan Diomande entered Liverpool’s shortlist after Mohamed Salah announced his departure, making the Ivorian a priority for the Reds’ summer rebuild. Yankuba Minteh, 21, joined Brighton from Newcastle in 2024 after a spell at Feyenoord under Arne Slot, and has been linked with Liverpool for nearly two years. Caught Offside reported that if Liverpool deem Leipzig’s price too high, Minteh would become one of the first names they move for, describing him as a “very Iraola‑style signing”. The report highlighted Minteh’s attributes – quick, direct and aggressive off the ball – fitting a high‑energy pressing system favoured by Brighton manager Andoni Iraola. Minteh has already contributed to 47 career goals and can operate on both wings, though he scored only three Premier League goals this term. Despite his limited Premier League tally, his ability to play on either flank offers Liverpool flexibility in case of injuries at Anfield. At a lower price than Diomande, Minteh provides Liverpool with a value‑driven option that could develop further alongside higher‑quality teammates. The Reds hope the signing will hit the ground running as they rebuild the squad.
