Manchester City delays appointment of Enzo Maresca

Manchester City remain managerless after Pep Guardiola's decade ended. The club is expected to appoint former Chelsea and Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca, but the announcement has been delayed. A BBC report says City and Chelsea are still negotiating a compensation package for Maresca’s departure. Chelsea claims entitlement because Maresca left his post despite being contacted until 2029. The amount and timing of any payment remain unclear. Pep Guardiola said the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders are well placed for the future. Maresca previously served as Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad manager and was Guardiola’s assistant during the 2022‑23 treble‑winning season. Former Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy described Maresca on the Vardy Party Podcast as “the spit of Pep” and “very capable”. Vardy added that Maresca’s style is “exactly the same” and that he “never used to sleep”, working late into the night before training. He said Maresca would arrive at training at “half‑six”. The wait continues until the compensation issue is resolved, after which Manchester City can confirm Maresca as manager. His tactical similarity to Guardiola may help him hit the ground running.
