Marcus Rashford could return to Barcelona amid Raphinha uncertainty

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford remains a Barcelona target despite the club declining his permanent transfer option this summer. His 2025/26 loan spell yielded 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances, helping Hansi Flick’s side retain the LaLiga title.

Rashford’s impact in Catalonia has not faded. He scored in England’s 4-2 World Cup victory over Croatia, reinforcing his value to Barcelona. The club’s earlier decision to pass on a £26 million permanent deal now appears less definitive amid shifting squad dynamics.

Barcelona’s potential exit for Raphinha could create space for Rashford’s return. Spanish broadcaster Terry Gibson suggested on talkSPORT that financial flexibility from a Raphinha sale might allow Barcelona to revisit Rashford’s situation. Gibson stated: “I think they’re trying to do a deal on the cheap to try and get him on the loan again.”

Gibson also questioned Anthony Gordon’s immediate role at Barcelona, citing competition from Rashford and Raphinha’s injury record. He added: “I would think that Anthony Gordon has got a job on his hands, if they keep Rashford, to be the first-choice player in the first game of the season.”

For Manchester United, Rashford’s future remains unresolved as the transfer window progresses. His successful loan spell in Spain has strengthened his case for a return, though valuation disputes may persist. The ongoing World Cup adds further uncertainty to the timeline.

Gibson highlighted Raphinha’s injury struggles and potential Saudi move, noting: “At the age of 29, I think there’s a big offer hanging from Saudi Arabia, which might entice the player and it might entice Barcelona.”

Barcelona’s financial constraints and squad rebuilding efforts continue to shape Rashford’s prospects. If Raphinha departs, Rashford’s familiarity with the club and proven output could make him a priority target.
