Nico Schlotterbeck says Kai Havertz is faster than expected
Nico Schlotterbeck praised Arsenal forward Kai Havertz for a quality many overlook: his speed. The German defender highlighted Havertz’s ability to sprint past opponents, adding that the forward’s 23‑goal penalty record with only one friendly miss underscores his overall threat.
“Kai is fast. Very fast,” Nico Schlotterbeck said, emphasizing the forward’s pace. He added that defenders often underestimate Havertz’s speed, which makes him harder to mark.
Schlotterbeck noted that Havertz can combine with teammates while dropping deep, showcasing his No. 10 qualities. He also praised Havertz’s ability to win aerial duels and battle physically despite his quickness.
Schlotterbeck injury raises World Cup exit fears for Germany defender
Havertz has added several breakaway goals for Arsenal in recent seasons. Those strikes illustrate how his speed translates into decisive moments on the pitch. Gianluigi Donnarumma admitted he did not expect Havertz to arrive so quickly when the forward lingered on the ball in City’s match against Arsenal in April. The Italian goalkeeper’s surprise underscores the forward’s unexpected acceleration in game situations. Injuries limited Havertz’s appearances in the first half of the 2025/26 season. Consequently, he did not have as many opportunities to display his skills that campaign. With the World Cup underway, Havertz hopes to remain fit for the tournament. He also aims to stay healthy throughout the 2026/27 campaign, according to the German forward’s outlook.
