Nicolas Raskin dismisses transfer talk ahead of World Cup 2026

Nicolas Raskin has dismissed transfer speculation ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, stating that club life has been paused for the tournament. The Glasgow Rangers midfielder spoke to the media in Seattle on Thursday, addressing his future amid strong performances in the Scottish Premiership.

Raskin, who has two years remaining on his Glasgow Rangers contract, confirmed his readiness to take the next step in his career. He emphasized that the timing for a potential move appears ideal if the club seeks to maximize his value. "A transfer? Honestly, we have all put club life on pause for the duration of the World Cup," Raskin said in a press conference on Friday.

The Belgian international added that he is not concerned with transfer fees or potential destinations, leaving negotiations to his agents. "I don’t worry about a potential transfer or the amount of a future transfer. I let my agents handle all of that," he stated.

Raskin’s future will hinge on playing time and possibly a starting role in Belgium’s next match against Iran on Saturday. He remains unfazed by the pressure, insisting the team’s objective remains unchanged: to win. "If we will have pressure against Iran? The fact is the objective would have been the same regardless: to win this match," he noted.

Belgium’s opening match against Egypt ended in disappointment, but Raskin dismissed the need for extra motivation. "If you’re not motivated at the World Cup, honestly, there’s not much to be done," he said with a laugh. "Everyone is highly motivated and fully focused."

He also addressed comparisons to Amadou Onana, clarifying that their profiles differ. "We have different profiles..." Raskin remarked, ruling out any direct competition between the two players.

Raskin’s relaxed demeanor suggests he is prioritizing the World Cup over transfer discussions, despite his ambitions for a career progression.
