Real Madrid enter pursuit of Mateus Fernandes

Real Madrid have entered the race for West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes. New head coach Jose Mourinho has identified the 21-year-old as a priority signing for Santiago Bernabeu midfield reinforcement. Fernandes has been one of Europe’s most sought-after young midfielders after a standout season at West Ham. The Portuguese international featured 45 times across all competitions for West Ham, contributing 10 goal involvements. West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League has accelerated transfer speculation around Fernandes, who has no intention of playing in the Championship. West Ham’s initial £38 million outlay to sign Fernandes from Southampton now contrasts with their £80 million asking price. Despite interest from Premier League clubs and abroad, no bid has met their valuation. Fernandes has also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal, and Manchester United, but none have progressed beyond initial enquiries. Mourinho’s reported push for Madrid to sign Fernandes raises the stakes in potential negotiations. West Ham are not under pressure to sell, with Fernandes under long-term contract. However, the club’s stance remains firm: no sale unless the £80 million fee is met. Madrid are also monitoring other midfield options, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández, though the World Cup winner’s price tag exceeds £120 million.
