Romano: Micky van de Ven will stay at Tottenham

Fabrizio Romano announced via his YouTube channel that Micky van de Ven remains a ‘crucial player’ for Tottenham Hotspur and that the club’s current stance is no exit for the Dutch defender this summer. The update comes as Liverpool continue to monitor the 25‑year‑old amid speculation of a possible transfer. Van de Ven has been linked with Liverpool for several weeks, a rumor that intensified after the English club lost centre‑backs Ibrahima Konate and Andy Robertson. Both players departed, leaving Liverpool with limited options despite the presence of Kostas Tsimikas, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet. Romano noted that Liverpool’s defensive needs could be met by those three, yet the club reportedly seeks higher‑quality, more experienced options. This desire has kept the Dutchman at the centre of transfer chatter. Tottenham have already secured two new centre‑backs ahead of the 2026‑27 campaign, signalling a reshuffle in their back line. Luka Vuskovic is also mentioned as a potential departure, though his younger age suggests Spurs prefer to retain him until his development peaks. "Micky van de Ven linked with Liverpool? What I can say is that he is considered a crucial player by Tottenham management and Roberto De Zerbi, same as Pedro Porro who signed a new contract," Romano said. "He’s completely untouchable and they want van de Ven to stay. So the expectation is no movements around Micky van de Ven in this summer transfer window." Van de Ven’s attributes include lightning‑quick speed and the versatility to operate as a left‑back, a trait shared with fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk. At 25, his left‑footedness and defensive acumen make him a potential heir to van Dijk’s role. Although his injury record is described as ‘a tad scary’, observers still rank him among the Premier League’s top defenders when fit.
