Tony Mowbray Returns to Blackburn Rovers After Cancer Battle

Tony Mowbray is back at Blackburn Rovers after a four‑year break. The interview took place at the club’s Brockhall training ground. In the four years away he held three Championship managerial posts. He also underwent a cancer diagnosis and subsequent surgeries. He speaks warmly of his wife, three sons and the dog that joins his early‑morning walks. He says the experience has given him perspective but he still misses the dressing‑room routine. He returns to a club where supporters and boardroom tensions are well documented. He already knows the CEO, head of football operations and head of technical development, which he says eases the transition. Blackburn scored 42 goals in 46 Championship matches last season, showing a lack of artistry. Mowbray will need to improve consistency and belief, for example in Todd Cantwell. He previously helped develop Jan‑Paul van Hecke, Harvey Elliott, Taylor Harwood‑Billis and Jarrad Branthwaite. He jokes about thousands of messages from well‑wishers awaiting reply. He expresses excitement, purpose and determination for the new chapter.
