Tuchel adds Trevor Chalobah after Livramento injury, keeps versatile squad

Thomas Tuchel has called up Trevor Chalobah to replace the injured Tino Livramento in England's tournament squad. The decision follows Tuchel's established pattern of selecting tall, positionally versatile players. Chalobah joins a group that will share the bulk of England's minutes.

Only Marc Guehi, Marcus Rashford and Morgan Rogers are also likely to challenge for starting spots alongside the eleven players who began the last match against Costa Rica. These fourteen individuals are expected to carry the load of England's minutes throughout the tournament.

Tuchel describes the remaining squad members as "specialists" who can provide tactical solutions depending on the state of the game. He cites Ivan Toney, Dan Burn and Jordan Henderson as examples of such specialists.

Trevor Chalobah is a tall, versatile defender capable of playing centre-back or full-back. He is praised for his work ethic and personality within the squad environment.

Other versatile defenders such as Jarell Quansah, Ezri Konsa, John Stones and Djed Spence have also featured at right-back during the tournament. Their adaptability reinforces Tuchel's preference for multi‑position players.

Tuchel will be hoping Reece James, familiar with the system's demands, will feature in every game. By omitting Lewis Hall and Trent Alexander‑Arnold, he aims to minimise external criticism over bench selections.
