Ajax clinches personal deal for Caio Henrique after fee hurdle
Ajax have secured a personal agreement with 28‑year‑old Brazilian left‑back Caio Henrique, paving the way for his permanent move to the Johan Cruijff Arena. The Dutch champions had already settled a €10 million fee with AS Monaco, plus €4 million in bonuses, removing the final barrier to the transfer.
Ajax have pursued Henrique for months, negotiating with AS Monaco over the €10 million fee. With the financial terms settled, the transfer no longer faces any impediment.
Henrique will travel to Amsterdam this weekend for his medical examination and to sign his contract. Reports note that the defender will earn a higher salary at Ajax than at his previous club.
Weghorst leaves Ajax for Twente after two years in Amsterdam
The five‑time Brazil international rejected approaches from clubs in England, Italy and his home country to join Ajax. He was persuaded after meetings with technical director Jordi Cruijff and head coach Míchel. At Monaco, coach Filipe Luís attempted to retain Henrique, but his efforts did not prevent the move. Luís had hoped to keep the Brazilian left‑back in the squad. Henrique spent six seasons with AS Monaco, appearing in 211 official matches. During that period he scored three goals and provided 41 assists. Monaco originally acquired him from Atlético Madrid for €8 million. Henrique becomes Ajax's first summer signing for the upcoming season. Further discussion of the club's plans, including Koeman's outlook against Morocco and Cape Verde, will be featured on Studio Oranje.
