Ajax to sign Caio Henrique from Monaco for up to €9.5m

Ajax are close to completing the signing of 28‑year‑old Brazilian left‑back Caio Henrique from AS Monaco, with a base fee of €9 million that could rise to €9.5 million through bonuses, assist‑driven impact after a serious knee injury.

Ajax and AS Monaco have agreed on a transfer fee of €9 million, with potential bonuses that could increase the total to €9.5 million, as reported by De . The Dutch side seeks to replace the departing left‑backs Oleksandr Zinchenko and Takehiro Tomiyasu with Henrique’s experience.

Antoine Maumon de Longevialle said he first met Henrique when the Brazilian arrived at Monaco, noting, “I know him quite well. I was in Monaco when he arrived.” He added that Monaco bought Henrique from Atlético Madrid for €8 million after a stalled breakthrough.

Henrique suffered a severe knee ligament tear in the derby against Nice in September 2023, just as he was at his peak and on track for an assist record. The injury kept him sidelined for months, and he only returned at the end of the 2023/24 season, struggling to reach his previous level. He and Aleksandr Golovin had previously combined to create significant impact on Monaco’s left flank.

Maumon de Longevialle observed, “His comeback was difficult last season and this season he faced competition from younger players, so his impact was smaller.” Henrique still featured for Brazil in 2025, playing ninety minutes in a friendly against Tunisia, but was not selected by Carlo Ancelotti for the World Cup and dealt with a hamstring problem from early March to late April.

According to Maumon de Longevialle, Henrique is a former number‑ten who grew up playing futsal, giving him strong technical ability. He is “quite fast, though perhaps not as fast as before,” and excels at creating goal‑scoring opportunities with crosses and combinations.

During his Monaco tenure Henrique amassed 211 duels, scoring three goals and providing 41 assists, making him one of France’s top assist providers for several seasons. In the most recent Ligue 1 campaign he recorded only two assists in 22 duels, seventeen of which were as a starter.

Maumon de Longevialle concluded, “He is a good, humble player; you won’t hear crazy stories about him. A move to Ajax could breathe new life into his career.” The transfer promises Ajax a seasoned left‑back with a proven assist record.
