Arne Slot Says Liverpool Bond Goes Beyond Football After Sacking

🇬🇧

Arne Slot announced his bond with Liverpool and its supporters extends beyond football after his dismissal. The Dutchman was sacked as head coach on Saturday.

Slot’s departure comes 12 months after guiding Liverpool to a Premier League title. The triumph marked the club’s second league crown in three decades.

The following season saw a "pitiful defence" and a fifth‑place league finish. Liverpool’s defensive record was the primary reason for the managerial change.

In an open letter to fans published in the Liverpool Echo, Slot wrote that the connection “goes beyond football, beyond European nights under the Anfield lights”. He added it also surpasses “the sound of You’ll Never Walk Alone being sung from The Kop”.

He described the league victory as “beyond special”. He highlighted the title’s significance in the same letter.

Slot praised the “spirit of compassion and unity” he experienced at the club. He said this spirit was evident throughout the title‑winning campaign.

He concluded that his affection for the Liverpool community will endure despite his exit. The club’s supporters are left to reflect on both the recent title and the subsequent decline.
