Arsenal seal €60m permanent deal for Piero Hincapié

Arsenal Football Club have confirmed the permanent signing of defender Piero Hincapié. The transfer, exercised on the club’s website, will see Hincapié join Arsenal on a full contract from 1 July. The deal is valued at roughly €60 million, a figure agreed with Bayer Leverkusen when the player arrived on loan last season.

Arsenal posted on its website that it had exercised the option to secure Hincapié’s transfer permanently. “We are delighted to announce that we have exercised the option to make the transfer of Piero Hincapié official. From 1 July he is permanently with us under contract,” the statement read.

The Ecuadorian defender arrived on a season‑long loan from Bayer Leverkusen for the 2023‑24 campaign. The loan gave Arsenal a full season to assess his suitability before committing to the permanent deal.

During his loan spell Hincapié featured in 39 matches across all competitions for Arsenal. His playing time spanned the Premier League, domestic cups and European fixtures.

Hincapié was part of the squad that captured the Premier League title. He also started in the Champions League final, where Arsenal were beaten by Paris Saint‑Germain.

Arsenal’s announcement highlighted that Hincapié “was a vital part of the team that won the Premier League and grew into a key figure in defence, conceding the fewest goals in the last three Premier League seasons.” The club also noted that he remains active with the Ecuador national team at the World Cup.
