Atletico Madrid block Real Madrid's Julian Alvarez bid
Real Madrid confirmed Atletico Madrid rejected their €150m bid for Julian Alvarez. Atletico require payment of Alvarez’s €500m release clause for any transfer to proceed.
Atletico also previously rejected Barcelona’s €100m opening offer for Alvarez. Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have expressed interest but have not submitted formal bids.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez campaigned on signing a ‘Galactico’ for €150m. Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise and PSG midfielder Vitinha were also cited as potential targets.
Madrid are unlikely to meet Alvarez’s €500m release clause, raising doubts over his arrival. Bayern reiterated Olise is not for sale, while a move for Vitinha appears unlikely at this stage.
Chelsea are open to selling Enzo Fernandez, another target for Madrid. However, his signing would not match the profile of Olise, Alvarez, or Vitinha in terms of excitement.
Madrid have already completed deals for Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries as free agents. They are pursuing Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori and Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol for the left-back position.
A decision is expected on triggering Nico Paz’s €9m buy-back clause. Incoming manager Jose Mourinho has prioritized the Argentine youngster.
