Atletico Madrid join race for 19‑year‑old Jorge Salinas

Atletico Madrid have entered the race for 19‑year‑old defender Jorge Salinas, while Barcelona also maintain a strong interest. The 19‑year‑old has become a focal point of the summer transfer window after a breakthrough season with Racing Santander in Spanish football.

Salinas enjoyed a breakthrough campaign that has attracted attention from several of Spain’s biggest clubs. His impressive performances have positioned him as one of the most exciting young defensive prospects in the country.

He played an important role in Racing Santander’s successful promotional season. The defender is now regarded as one of the most promising young talents in Spanish football.

According to AS, Atletico Madrid have taken concrete steps by entering discussions with Racing Santander about a potential deal for Salinas. The 19‑year‑old is represented by influential agent Jorge Mendes.

Barcelona have already made preliminary contacts through Mendes, but no agreement has been reached with either the player or Racing Santander. Current talks are focused on exploring possibilities rather than finalising a transfer.

Racing Santander are standing firm on their valuation, with reports suggesting a release clause exceeding the previously mentioned €16 million figure. Barcelona are reportedly unwilling to meet that amount.

With no deal close to completion, the race remains wide open as the summer transfer window enters a crucial phase. Unless Barcelona accelerate their efforts, Atletico Madrid could place themselves in a strong position to secure the promising defender.
