Barcelona eye Cesc Fàbregas as Hansi Flick successor

Barcelona’s sporting leadership, led by Deco, has identified former midfielder Cesc Fàbregas as the leading candidate to replace Hansi Flick when his contract ends in 2028. The club is actively exploring the long-term possibility of bringing Fàbregas back to Camp Nou. Alejandro Echevarría, close advisor to president Joan Laporta, reportedly traveled to Como months ago to discuss a potential future return. Barcelona see Fàbregas as Flick’s natural successor, valuing his tactical approach and modern football philosophy. Fàbregas currently manages Como, where he has earned praise for player development and his coaching style. Barcelona’s hierarchy views him as a strong cultural fit, citing his deep understanding of the club’s philosophy and ties to La Masia. No immediate urgency exists, as Flick remains under contract until 2028 with a one-year extension option. Barcelona prefer to plan ahead rather than wait for a managerial change to become necessary. The club has ruled out other high-profile names, including Luis Enrique, due to salary demands and management style concerns. Fàbregas’s footballing ideas align with Barcelona’s long-term direction. For now, the focus is on maintaining a relationship with Fàbregas and keeping the door open for a future return.
