Bundesliga interest heats up for Ajax’s Anton Gaaei amid squad overhaul

🇳🇱

Ajax right‑back Anton Gaaei is attracting serious interest from Bundesliga clubs, Ajax’s 1‑3 friendly defeat to Panathinaikos on Saturday.

Both Gaaei and Dolberg missed the training match, joining other absentees Rayane Bounida and Oliver Edvardsen. Mika Godts was present in Ermelo but left shortly before kickoff due to private circumstances, and Ajax cited niggles after a heavy training week.

The Dutch capital’s technical director Jordi Cruijff confirmed that the Danish duo are on the radar of clubs abroad, with Dolberg linked to a concrete move to FC Midtjylland. Gaaei, meanwhile, has drawn serious interest from unnamed Bundesliga sides.

End‑June reports also linked Gaaei with a possible transfer to Italian side Sassuolo, highlighting the breadth of speculation surrounding his future.

Cruijff has stressed that Ajax must extensively rebuild the squad to compete for titles, but the club needs money to do so. Both Dolberg and Gaaei represent transfer value that could free up budget for new signings.

During the same period, Cruijff and scout Joel Lara were spotted in Ermelo, "with the phone to the ear," suggesting active scouting ahead of the summer window.

If the interest materialises, Ajax could generate funds to support its rebuilding plan, while Gaaei and Dolberg would gain opportunities to continue their careers in leagues offering regular playing time.
