Ceballos exits Real Madrid as Los Blancos clear squad space

Real Madrid have officially announced the departure of midfielder Dani Ceballos after seven seasons with the club. The announcement follows an agreement to mutually terminate the final year of his contract, freeing up a squad spot as the Merengues prepare for further arrivals.

The club confirmed the decision in a statement, citing Ceballos’s commitment during his time at the Santiago Bernabéu. It highlighted his 215 appearances and 16 titles, including three European Cups and four Club World Cups, across seven seasons.

Ceballos, who joined Real Madrid in 2017 from Real Betis, posted a farewell message on social media. He thanked the club, staff, teammates, and supporters for nine years of experience, calling it “one of the most important chapters” of his life.

His departure resolves an overbooking issue at Real Madrid, where the squad has reached 27 players with pending signings. The club is now prioritising exits to accommodate new defenders and midfielders under José Mourinho’s plans.

The termination waives Ceballos’s final year, valued at up to €5 million, allowing him to join any club without restriction. Real Betis are strongly linked with a move, potentially reuniting him with his boyhood club.

Despite his trophy haul, Ceballos never became a regular starter at Real Madrid. He spent two seasons on loan at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021, returning to limited game time under multiple coaches.

The midfielder was the MVP of the U-19 European Championship in 2015, but his individual profile never matched expectations set at his arrival from Real Betis.
