Charlotte FC bets on speed: Saint-Maximin joins as DP signing

By 4All Football Editorial ·

Official Allan Saint-Maximin has completed a free transfer to MLS side Charlotte FC, confirmed on Monday, and will join the club as a Designated Player. The 29‑year‑old Frenchman signs a three‑year DP contract, a marquee move aimed at reviving an attack that has struggled for goals this season.

Charlotte FC pursued Saint-Maximin to inject speed and flair into its forward line. The club believes his pace and creativity can address the lack of scoring potency that has plagued the team.

Saint-Maximin arrived at RC Lens in February after terminating his contract with Mexican side Club America, marking a return to Europe from North America. In the second half of the Ligue 1 campaign he contributed four goals and three assists in 13 appearances for Les Sang et Or.

During his spell at Stade Bollaert, Saint-Maximin helped RC Lens capture the Coupe de France, the club’s first major honour in Ligue 1 history. Despite the success, he did not extend his short‑term deal and left the French side on a free transfer.

The former Newcastle United winger now returns to the United States as a US‑based marquee signing for Charlotte FC. His three‑year DP deal classifies him as a Designated Player, reinforcing Charlotte’s strategy to boost its attacking options.

The transfer was reported by Luke Entwistle. Charlotte hopes his arrival will also raise the club’s profile across the MLS market.
