Chelsea eye Leeds left‑back Gabriel Gudmundsson, £30m

Chelsea are targeting 27‑year‑old Swedish left‑back Gabriel Gudmundsson of Leeds United after Real Madrid paid £51.8 million for Marc Cucurella, leaving a vacancy on the Blues’ left flank. Gudmundsson arrived at Elland Road last summer for £10 million, has made 35 Premier League appearances and is under contract until 2029. Swedish journalist Anel Avdic Gudmundsson sits at the top of Chelsea’s summer wishlist. The Blues’ left‑back vacancy stems from Real Madrid’s £51.8 million acquisition of Marc Cucurella. Since joining Leeds United last summer for a £10 million fee, Gudmundsson has featured in 35 Premier League matches. Manager Daniel Farke routinely includes him among the first names on his teamsheet, viewing him as indispensable. Gudmundsson signed a long‑term contract that binds him to Leeds United until 2029. Chelsea would need to meet Leeds’ asking price of at least £30 million, roughly three times his original fee. Leeds have already lost goalkeeper Illan Meslier on a free transfer this month. The club has also submitted a £20 million bid for Southampton midfielder Shea Charles. A Getty Images photograph by Warren Little captures Gudmundsson controlling the ball during the February 10, 2026 Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea’s recruitment team would be expected to channel any received funds straight back into squad reinforcement, according to the analysis.
