Deschamps downplays controversy over Argentinian referee
French coach Didier Deschamps has played down the controversy surrounding the appointment of Argentinian referee Facundo Tello for their quarterfinal match against Marokko. Deschamps stated that he has trust in the referee and views Marokko as their opponent, not the referee.
The match is a rematch of the 2018 World Cup semifinal in Qatar, where France defeated Marokko. Deschamps praised the quality of the Marokkan team, saying they are a strong team with good players.
The FIFA appointed Facundo Tello to lead the match, despite the rivalry between Argentinië and France being heightened since the 2022 World Cup final. Deschamps expressed his confidence in the referees, hoping they will perform well.
