Driessen: Summerville outperforms Malen for Oranje wing role
Crysencio Summerville has forced his way into the conversation for the Netherlands starting XI after a standout cameo against Sweden. His performance in the 5-1 victory has prompted pundits to question Ronald Koeman’s selection choices.
Jeroen Kapteijns highlighted Summerville’s impact during the podcast Kick-off. "That Summerville has now played himself into the starting line-up," he stated. "He impressed in the first match and delivered an outstanding substitute appearance. He brought dynamism, freshness, a goal, an assist, and a secondary assist. Koeman can’t ignore that—it would be strange if he did."
Valentijn Driessen echoed the praise, noting even Denzel Dumfries benefits from Summerville’s presence. "Dumfries performs much better with Summerville than with Malen," Driessen said. "That’s because Summerville supports defensively. When Malen doesn’t track back, Dumfries struggles. Malen often plays for himself, while Summerville offers more balance."

Driessen also praised Summerville’s goal against Sweden. "Everyone tries to make their point, so I will too. Summerville scored from the left, cutting inside to finish. He’s outperforming Malen and Dumfries in this role."Netherlands beat Sweden with Brobbey’s impact in question ahead of Tunisia clash
Mike Verweij acknowledged Summerville’s quality but defended Malen’s selection. "Koeman opts for Brobbey with Malen as right winger because Malen drifts inside, creating space for Dumfries," Verweij explained. "Defensively, Dumfries works better with Summerville, but in attack, Malen offers more—just look at the assist for Brobbey’s second goal."
