Eastleigh gamble on 20‑year‑old ex‑Millwall defender Ben Drake

🇬🇧 By 4All Football Editorial ·

Eastleigh have secured the services of former Millwall defender Ben Drake, a 20‑year‑old who spent two seasons with the Lions. The Spitfires announced the signing after Drake featured as an unused substitute in Millwall's 2‑1 EFL Cup win over Coventry City early last season.

Drake, born in 2003, joins Eastleigh after two years attached to Millwall, where he was developing within the Lions' setup. His only senior involvement for Millwall came as an unused substitute in the club's 2‑1 victory over Coventry City in the EFL Cup at the start of last season. Millwall's cup run provided the platform for his exposure, highlighting his proximity to first‑team action.

During the same season, Drake spent time on loan at Braintree Town, where he accumulated 22 National League appearances. The loan spell gave him regular senior minutes in a competitive environment. Braintree Town benefited from his defensive contributions throughout the campaign.

The defender now adds depth to the Spitfires' back line as they prepare for the upcoming National League campaign. Eastleigh's acquisition strengthens their defensive options ahead of the season. The signing reflects the Spitfires' intent to bolster squad depth with young talent.

For Drake, the move offers a chance to earn regular first‑team football beyond the bench. Leaving Millwall's Lions' setup, he can continue his development with consistent playing time. The transfer also provides a platform to showcase his abilities in the National League.
