Emiliano Martinez Signals Move to Juventus, Villa Reacts

Emiliano Martinez has signalled willingness to join Juventus in Turin, prompting the Italian club to prepare talks with Aston Villa. The 33‑year‑old Argentina goalkeeper is currently on World Cup duty. A photo by Shaun Botterill captured Martinez celebrating with fans at Villa Park on May 15. Martinez earns around €9 million a year at Villa Park and is prepared to reduce his salary to roughly €5.5 million to facilitate a Turin transfer. He would sign a three‑year deal on reduced terms, a drop from his current earnings. The Argentine arrived at Aston Villa after winning the Europa League in Istanbul, boosting his market profile. A move would see him leave the Premier League for Serie A. Juventus aim to secure the keeper for minimal cost, while Aston Villa value him at €12 million and hold a contract with three years remaining. Unai Emery must approve any deal, and Villa’s valuation of €10‑15 million is cited as reasonable. Aston Villa, the Midlands club, insists on a fee that reflects Martinez’s world‑class pedigree. Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin is also linked as a potential replacement, though a €20 million price tag is considered steep for Villa’s budget. The club is advised to target a younger goalkeeper rather than a veteran. With the World Cup ongoing, dragging negotiations into the summer could disrupt pre‑season preparations. Villa is urged to dictate terms, secure a fee, and move on before training begins.
