FC Twente signs Aske Adelgaard as Mats Rots replacement

Danish left‑back Aske Adelgaard, 22, has completed his move to FC Twente from Go Ahead Eagles, signing a contract that runs until mid‑2030 with an optional extra season. The transfer follows the club’s €16 million sale of Mats Rots to Hoffenheim and makes Adelgaard the first summer signing at De Grolsch Veste. FC Twente transferred Mats Rots to Hoffenheim for a reported €16 million, setting a club record. Shortly after, the Dutch side confirmed negotiations with Go Ahead Eagles for Adelgaard, positioning him as Rots’s successor. Technical director Erik ten Hag said on the club website: "We zijn blij dat Aske Adelgaard de keuze voor FC Twente heeft gemaakt". He added that Adelgaard is an interesting player with much potential and that his Eredivisie experience at Go Ahead Eagles matches the demands of Dutch football and the club’s dynamic style. Aske Adelgaard stated: "FC Twente is a big club with beautiful ambitions. I want to contribute there. The past two years I have learned a lot in the Netherlands and have been able to show myself. This is a next step for me. Here at FC Twente I want to further develop as a footballer and gain new experiences, also in European matches. I look forward to being on the training field on Monday". He expressed enthusiasm about joining the Dutch side and hopes to play in European competitions. Adelgaard joined Go Ahead Eagles in the summer of 2024 after the club paid three hundred thousand euros to Odense BK for the Danish defender. His contract in Deventer was set to run until mid‑2028, and the fee paid by FC Twente has not been disclosed. Last season Adelgaard featured in 27 Eredivisie matches, starting 16 of them. He recorded one goal and two assists, and after initially backing up Dean James, he secured a regular starting place in recent months. TC Tubantia previously noted that FC Twente might still recruit a second left‑back. The newspaper also reported interest in 22‑year‑old Croatian Simun Hrgovic of Hadjuk Split.
