Fiorentina's surprise €13m swoop lands versatile Gremio defender Viery

🇮🇹

Fiorentina have agreed to sign 21‑year‑old Gremio defender Viery for €13 million plus add‑ons, with the Brazilian set to undergo his medical in Florence after arriving in Rome on Tuesday and then sign a five‑year contract; the versatile centre‑back can also cover left‑back.

Fiorentina moved quickly to secure Viery, outbidding interest from clubs such as Nottingham Forest, LOSC, Juventus, Brighton & Hove Albion, Napoli and Bologna. The deal, reported by Sky Sport Italia, amounts to €13 million plus performance‑related add‑ons. The signing marks the first major acquisition since Fabio Grosso took charge of the team.

Viery is a product of the Gremio youth academy and was promoted to the senior squad in February 2025. This season he has contributed two goals and one assist in 27 appearances.

Viery will land on Italian soil on Tuesday in Rome, then travel to Florence for his medical. The examination is scheduled for tomorrow, after which the five‑year contract will be finalised.

The transfer bolsters Fiorentina’s defensive options, adding a centre‑back who can also operate at left‑back. For Viery, the move offers a five‑year stay in Serie A under a newly appointed coach.
