Former Dutch stars argue Guardiola is not the answer for Oranje
Former Netherlands internationals Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Wim Kieft said today that Pep Guardiola is not a suitable candidate to become the next coach of the Dutch national team. Van Wolfswinkel told that while fans would love to see Guardiola, the Dutch coaching guild already provides quality managers and should remain the source of the Oranje boss.
Wim Kieft echoed the sentiment, naming Arne Slot as his preferred successor and dismissing Guardiola as an unrealistic option. He summed it up with a short remark: “For me Arne Slot. Guardiola does not want it anyway.”
Arne Slot is currently being touted across Dutch media as the leading contender for the vacant national‑team coach role. His name appears in discussions about the successor to Ronald Koeman, who is set to leave his post.
Van der Vaart backs Arne Slot and Winston Bogarde for Dutch bench
Former midfielder Rafael van der Vaart also voiced his opinion, indicating he would consider the former Liverpool manager as a possible candidate. Van der Vaart added that, should he take charge, he would appoint former defender Winston Bogarde as his assistant trainer. The debate unfolds as the Dutch FA prepares to announce Koeman’s departure and the shortlist of candidates for the new Oranje manager.
