Hull City chase Meunier to secure Premier League foothold

Hull City are reportedly closing in on right‑back Thomas Meunier as they prepare for life in the Premier League, with the Belgian’s Lille contract set to expire this summer. Transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri says negotiations are already at an advanced stage.

Meunier featured 35 times for Lille in his first season after leaving Trabzonspor, contributing two goals and three assists. The experienced defender is currently a free agent, allowing him to seek a new club without a transfer fee.

His résumé includes spells at Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain, Borussia Dortmund and Trabzonspor, giving him a breadth of experience across Europe’s top leagues. The breadth of his career is seen as valuable for a club newly promoted to England’s top tier.

Hull City finished sixth in the Championship last season and secured promotion through the play‑offs. The promotion marks their return to the Premier League after a period in the second division.

English media report that Hull City intend to invest heavily this summer, with a transfer budget of at least €50 million and possibly up to €100 million, to ensure they can remain competitive in the Premier League.
