Jason Kerr signs two-year deal with Hibernian after leaving Wigan
Jason Kerr has completed a two‑year move to Hibernian, leaving Wigan Athletic after five seasons and more than 130 appearances. The 29‑year‑old Scottish defender, a lifelong Hibs supporter, said the transfer is a “significant moment” for his career. He was out of contract and head coach David Gray had observed him last season.
Kerr began his professional career at St Johnstone, where he played 147 matches. During his time there he also spent loan periods at East Fife and Queen of the South.
He captained the Saints side that secured the League Cup and Scottish Cup in 2021. Kerr described that season as extraordinary.
After leaving St Johnstone, Kerr joined Wigan Athletic, eventually becoming captain. He accumulated over 130 appearances across five years at the English club.
Kerr recalled attending his first match at Easter Road at age five or six, noting it was a well‑known secret that he is a Hibs fan. He said, “To actually be here as a player is a significant moment for me – I’m buzzing.”
He believes Hibernian are moving upward, stating “Hibs are only going one way right now and that’s up.” Kerr pledged to give 100 % for the badge.
