Julian Alvarez says leaving Atletico Madrid is best for all
Julian Alvarez said on the World Cup that leaving Atletico Madrid this summer would be the best outcome for all parties. The 26‑year‑old Argentine forward added he has already spoken with the club about a possible departure and wants to fulfil his dream.
Alvarez told reporters on the World Cup that “I spoke with people at Atletico and I think the best thing for everyone involved is for me to leave.” The 26‑year‑old remains under contract with Atletico Madrid, making him one of the most sought‑after forwards in European football.
He added “I want to fulfil my dream,” indicating his long‑term ambitions. His comments have likely alerted elite clubs, including Barcelona and several Premier League sides, that are monitoring his situation.
Alvarez can operate as a centre‑forward, second striker or wide attacker, combining goals, work rate and creativity at the highest level. This adaptability has contributed to his reputation as a versatile attacker in Europe. He previously played for Manchester City before joining Atletico Madrid.
The forward emerged from River Plate, where he won major honours in both club and international football. He is currently focused on helping Argentina retain the World Cup after a strong start to the tournament.
After Argentina’s latest victory, Alvarez praised Lionel Messi, saying “We see him every day and he keeps making magic.” He noted that Argentina’s progress means any transfer discussions are likely to remain on hold until after the tournament, while Atletico Madrid have yet to issue an official response.
Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni’s side have won their opening matches at the World Cup and appear well positioned to challenge for the trophy. Scaloni’s guidance has allowed the team to maintain momentum while Alvarez’s transfer talks remain on hold.
