Klopp slams Trump and Infantino over Balogun suspension lift

🇩🇪
Jürgen Klopp, the former Liverpool boss set to become Germany’s next manager, blasted FIFA’s decision to lift United States striker Folarin Balogun’s suspension ahead of the USA‑Belgium game. The fixture will start at 02:00 on Monday night, 07 July, and Klopp warned Donald Trump and Gianni Infantino that football should stay out of political interference. The FIFA ruling to allow Balogun to play against Belgium has sparked division within the governing body. Critics argue the move undermines the organisation’s disciplinary standards. Speaking to MagentaTV, Klopp said, “If Trump and Infantino (and the White House intervened) really took this decision, it’s insane.” He added that “football is ours, not theirs.” Klopp addressed Infantino and Trump directly, declaring, “These two people, who know nothing about football, should not get involved.” He continued, “It was a red card. There is no discussion. We are sorry for Balogun, because he didn’t do it on purpose, but the regulation says so.” UEFA also condemned the FIFA action, describing it as a crossed red line. The federation’s statement echoed the sentiment that the decision breaches established protocols. Klopp’s comments come as he prepares to replace Julian Nagelsmann as Germany’s head coach. Nagelsmann was dismissed after Germany’s round‑of‑16 loss to Paraguay at the World Cup. Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that an agreement has been reached for Klopp’s appointment. He said the only remaining step is formal approval by the German Football Association. The USA‑Belgium encounter will be streamed live on Walfoot.be from 02:00 on 07 July. Viewers are encouraged to follow the match despite the surrounding controversy.
