Lamine Yamal urges Barcelona to seal Julian Alvarez deal

🇪🇸

Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, 18, told reporters from Spain’s 2026 World Cup base in Chicago that the club is ready to welcome Julian Alvarez, the Atletico Madrid forward, if he chooses to join, emphasizing the player’s fit with the “best club, fans and city” in the world.

Yamal has already become one of the leading voices in the Barcelona dressing room despite his age. He is also representing La Roja at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after having helped them win UEFA Euro 2024.

In interviews with COPE and Cadena SER, the winger spoke about Barcelona’s need for a new No. 9 following Robert Lewandowski’s departure. He said the club must sign a striker who can consistently score goals.

Yamal named Julian Alvarez and Mikel Oyarzabal as the players he admires most. He stressed that the final decision rests with sporting director Deco, whom he praised for handling the recruitment well.

Regarding Alvarez, Yamal called him a great player and said he would be welcomed with open arms at Barcelona. He added that the forward would be joining the best club, the best fans and the best city in the world.

Yamal also highlighted Real Sociedad striker Mikel Oyarzabal as another talent he respects. His comments show the teenager’s willingness to discuss multiple potential signings.

The public endorsement reflects Yamal’s growing confidence and leadership within the squad. It also signals a united front for any incoming striker, whatever the final choice.

Whether Barcelona ultimately signs Alvarez, Oyarzabal, or another forward remains undecided. Yamal’s support, however, gives the club a clear message of welcome for any new No. 9.
