Leo Østigård watches son's birth via video; Doku may quit

Norwegian defender Leo Østigård, 26, has become a father and is watching his newborn son via video link while at the World Cup. He remains with Norway's squad in the United States as they prepare for their second group match against Senegal in New Jersey on Monday.

Østigård plays for Italian Serie A club Genoa. The defender confirmed the birth of his son through a video call with his family.

The Norwegian team is based in the United States for the tournament. Their next fixture against Senegal is scheduled for Monday local time in New Jersey.

Jeremy Doku, nicknamed the Red Devil, is also expecting a child during the World Cup. Unlike Østigård, Doku has expressed a desire to attend the birth in person.

Doku indicated he would temporarily leave the competition to be with his newborn. His potential departure would create a short‑term gap in Belgium's attacking options.

Both players face the personal challenge of balancing new parenthood with World Cup duties. Their situations highlight the human side of the tournament. Norway's coach will have to manage Østigård's availability alongside the team's tactical plans.
