Lijnders may reunite with Klopp if Germany job opens
Pepijn Lijnders is taking a break after departing Manchester City. Some observers suggest he could reunite with Jurgen Klopp if the German takes the Germany national team job.
Lijnders left the Etihad Stadium alongside Pep Guardiola and the rest of the backroom staff in May after a single season that produced a Carabao Cup and FA Cup double. He said family considerations made a further year in England “no longer an option”.
Lijnders spent years working under Klopp at Liverpool before moving to Manchester City. Klopp gave his blessing to Guardiola before approaching Lijnders last summer, and the two have kept a close relationship.
Since stepping down at Liverpool in 2024, Klopp has been linked with the Germany vacancy while remaining on a sabbatical. His departure from Anfield marked the start of that break. Mike Keegan has highlighted that a reunion would depend on Klopp’s timeline, and no concrete developments have emerged.
