Liverpool eye right-back signing this summer, says journalist

Journalist David Lynch told Dave Davis that Liverpool will act on the right-back position this summer under new manager Andoni Iraola, after a season hampered by injuries to Conor Bradley and reliance on Jeremie Frimpong. The club’s recruitment team sees the role as a priority in the upcoming transfer window.

During the Media Matters podcast on Anfield Index, Dave Davis asked Lynch which positions supporters should monitor. Lynch answered succinctly: “I just know that they’re going to do something at right back.”

Lynch added that the precise nature of the signing is still undecided, describing it as “up in the air at the moment.” This suggests Liverpool’s recruitment staff are keeping multiple options open.

He proposed that Liverpool might target a centre-half capable of covering the right-back slot, reflecting a trend toward defensive versatility. Such a player could provide depth across the back line.

Lynch also noted the possibility of signing an “out and out right back,” which would likely trigger a reshuffle in the defensive lineup. Both routes remain under consideration.

Injury concerns underpin the urgency, with Jeremie Frimpong remaining in the squad but Conor Bradley’s fitness record increasingly problematic. Liverpool cannot afford another season lacking reliable options.

The club has already acted quickly by securing Victor Munoz, a move Lynch described as a welcome surprise. This demonstrates Liverpool’s willingness to move in the market.

Lynch highlighted that Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth side often relied on adaptable players able to operate across defensive positions. That experience makes a versatile signing a logical fit for Liverpool.
