Liverpool face competition for Lille Ayyoub Bouaddi

Liverpool have been linked with Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi after his World Cup performances, but according to journalist Lewis Steele the club faces a crowded market. Steele and host Dave Davis said Liverpool are far from being favourites to secure the Moroccan youngster. The discussion took place on Media Matters on Anfield Index, where Steele examined Liverpool’s wider recruitment strategy. He noted that the Reds’ interest in Bouaddi follows reports linking the player to the club after his World Cup displays. Steele affirmed Liverpool’s admiration, stating, “I think it’s clear that they like him.” He added, “I think it’s also clear that there’s a lot of competition for his signature.” While Liverpool are reportedly in the driving seat for RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande, Steele said the club’s position on Bouaddi is weaker. He observed, “At the moment it seems to be that Liverpool are not at the top of the list for him.” Steele argued that a busy summer could push Bouaddi down the priority list. He explained, “Liverpool are unsure whether he would be the priority in a summer where they’ve got to do so much else.” Summarising the contrast, Steele said, “We said they’re in the driving seat for Diomande, they’re more sort of lurking in the back of the car for Bouaddi.” The comment underscored Liverpool’s tentative stance. Steele highlighted that Bouaddi, despite being “obviously very talented, but he’s only really got a season or two of experience,” already commands significant interest. He concluded, “These midfielders aren’t cheap.” Steele closed by reiterating that Liverpool’s scouting department still values Bouaddi, noting, “I think it’s definitely true to say that they like him.” Whether the club moves from observers to contenders will depend on how the transfer window unfolds.
