Liverpool’s midfield hunt takes a new turn with Arribas in sight
Liverpool have added another name to their midfield shopping list after reportedly joining the race for Sergio Arribas. The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has become one of the most sought-after players in La Liga 2 this season, with 26 goals and seven assists in 46 appearances.
The Reds have already completed deals for Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz this window, but another creative presence is still on Jürgen Klopp’s wishlist. Arribas offers versatility, capable of playing centrally or on either wing, which would add depth to Liverpool’s attacking options.
Real Madrid retained 50% of Arribas’ economic rights when he moved to UD Almería in 2023, giving them a significant say in any future transfer. The clause means Madrid could block or steer negotiations, complicating Liverpool’s pursuit.
Transfermarkt values Arribas at €20 million, a figure that would likely rise in a deal but still represent a relatively modest outlay for a player with his profile. The midfielder’s profile aligns with Liverpool’s recent habit of targeting undervalued talent from relegated sides, as seen with Andy Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum and Xherdan Shaqiri.
Arribas, a Real Madrid academy graduate, has recorded 33 direct goal involvements this season, making him one of the standout performers in Spain’s second tier. His form has drawn interest from multiple top European clubs, but Liverpool’s involvement adds a fresh dynamic to the race.
