Man City near hiring Enzo Maresca, reject Anderson offers
Manchester City are nearing the appointment of former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca on a three‑year deal after reaching a compensation agreement with their Premier League rivals, and plan to begin pre‑season training for players not involved in the World Cup in mid‑July.
The club have not yet introduced Maresca to the squad, leaving players who are weighing their futures in limbo until the new manager meets them.
Two bids for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson have been rejected, and City are expected to submit another offer as they continue their pursuit.
The chase for the England international is set to proceed with Maresca’s blessing, as City look to replace departing captain Bernardo Silva.
City Xtra’s Freddie Pye told : "Given the absence of any pre‑season training until next month, and even those activities being restricted to non‑World Cup players, perhaps Maresca and City have not lost out on anything via a delayed announcement, with the Italian likely to be in close contact over planning for the new season.".
Pye added: "City have a compelling and desirable sales pitch to offer players these days, irrespective of the head coach – though not overlooking the allure of Guardiola. This is a winning project for players, a clear opportunity to win immediate silverware, unrivalled facilities and perhaps joining the start of an exciting new era.".
Players not involved in the World Cup are expected to return for pre‑season in mid‑July, with training limited to those individuals.
City anticipate finalising Maresca’s appointment soon and will keep active in the transfer market as they shape the squad for the upcoming season.
