Michael Edwards says Liverpool target Folarin Balogun

Michael Edwards could finally sign an attacker he has been eyeing for years. Liverpool need attacking reinforcements beyond a single winger. Andoni Iraola faces a squad that requires more than one forward to provide depth across the Premier League and Champions League. Mohamed Salah’s departure and the likely exit of Federico Chiesa will sharply cut Liverpool’s attacking options. Hugo Ekitike is sidelined with a long‑term injury, not expected back until January 2027. Rio Ngumoha, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo are the only genuine attacking options currently available. Ngumoha is an exciting young talent, while Gakpo offers quality and versatility. Isak, despite his ability, has an injury record that makes reliance risky. The club must consider adding a natural No.9 or a versatile attacker, possibly both if Gakpo also leaves. Multiple signings would provide depth, tactical variety and competition for places. Folarin Balogun has been on Michael Edwards’s radar for a while. In 2020 Liverpool explored a move for the young forward, who was due to become a free agent in the summer of 2021, and scouts wanted to bring him into the academy. Balogun stayed at Arsenal, later went out on loan and was sold to AS Monaco three years ago. The 24‑year‑old recorded 24 goal contributions in 43 games last season and amassed 53 goals with 16 assists over four seasons in France at Reims and Monaco. He has two years left on his deal and scored a brace for the United States at the World Cup, making him a ready candidate for Liverpool.
