Portsmouth's inflated bid stalls as NAC demands Transfermarkt price
A €500,000 bid from English Championship side Portsmouth for NAC Breda goalkeeper Daniel Bielica has been rejected, and even a subsequent higher offer failed to meet the Dutch club’s demand for a fee above the player’s €800,000 Transfermarkt valuation in the market.
Portsmouth’s initial €500,000 proposal was tabled at the Rat Verlegh Stadium in Breda, but NAC rejected it outright, competing in the Championship, had hoped the offer would secure the 24‑year‑old keeper.
VI later reported that Portsmouth returned with a second, ‘considerably increased’ bid, yet NAC again turned it down. The Dutch side maintains that any deal must exceed Bielica’s Transfermarkt asking price.
NAC has set the bar above the €800,000 figure listed by Transfermarkt, the platform’s estimated market value for Bielica. Bielica, a Polish international, is on a one‑year contract after arriving free from Poland two seasons ago.
With the Portsmouth offer stalled, the Championship club is now exploring alternative targets, while NAC leaves the door slightly ajar for future negotiations. The situation underscores how clubs in the English second tier must balance budget constraints with the market valuations of emerging goalkeepers.
