PSV’s Van Bommel and Mauro Junior still finding their rhythm
The PSV training ground in Eindhoven was alive with activity this afternoon, but two key faces stood out for different reasons. Ruben van Bommel and Mauro Junior moved cautiously through drills, their bodies still regaining the sharpness of match-day intensity. Alassane Plea, meanwhile, was already fully integrated into the first-team rhythm, his presence a reminder of the gap between those returning and those fully fit.
Head coach Peter Bosz struck a cautious tone when discussing the pair. Speaking to VoetbalPrimeur, he confirmed that neither Van Bommel nor Mauro Junior is ready for immediate competitive action. The French striker Plea, however, has already featured in pre-season preparations, a clear sign of his readiness.
"I am just happy he is training with the group again," Bosz said of Van Bommel. "We need to tailor things for Ruben, and the same will apply to Mauro. These boys need a little more time to get back to full match fitness."
The manager’s comments underline the delicate balance PSV must strike. Van Bommel, the son of former PSV and Netherlands midfielder Mark van Bommel, joined the club this summer. Mauro Junior arrived on loan from RB Bragantino, adding depth to Bosz’s attacking options.
Bosz’s approach suggests no rush to deploy either player. Fitness milestones, not calendar dates, will dictate their return. That patience extends to Mauro Junior, whose loan deal includes performance-related clauses that may hinge on his fitness levels.
Alassane Plea’s early integration contrasts sharply with the caution surrounding the other two. The French striker’s presence in pre-season drills signals his manager’s confidence in his readiness, a point Bosz did not overlook.
For PSV, the trio represents different stages of recovery and adaptation. Plea is already contributing, while Van Bommel and Mauro Junior remain works in progress. Bosz’s words reflect a club prioritizing long-term readiness over short-term fixes.
