Real Madrid snatches 14‑year‑old winger from Barcelona’s La Masia
Real Madrid have secured 14‑year‑old winger Jan Vila Farre from Espanyol, leaving Barcelona’s La Masia in his wake. The Catalan youngster, who turned down a move to Barcelona after attracting interest from Premier League clubs, chose the club’s Valdebebas project.
Vila is a regular for Spain’s Under‑14 national team, praised for his pace, directness and goal‑scoring instincts. Coaches and scouts note his ability to decide matches with his speed and finishing.
People familiar with his development describe him as a player with enormous potential, highlighting both his quality on the ball and his mentality. His reputation as a dynamic winger has grown rapidly within the Spanish youth circuit.
Vila began his football journey at Tarrega before moving to Gimnastic Manresa, where he netted 28 goals in 58 appearances. Those figures established him as one of the region’s most promising young attackers.
Ahead of the 2023/24 season he joined Espanyol, immediately featuring for the club’s Alevin A side. In that squad he scored 16 goals in 26 matches, confirming his scoring touch.
The following season with Espanyol’s Infantil B team he added 15 goals from another 26 appearances. Operating primarily as a traditional right winger, he thrives in one‑versus‑one situations and creates danger with his dribbling.
His arrival at Real Madrid’s La Fabrica academy is viewed as a significant victory over Barcelona, underscoring the capital’s pull on emerging talent. A photo of Vila’s announcement was provided by Angel Martinez/Getty Images.
