Stefan de Vrij leaves Inter after eight years for Panathinaikos

Stefan de Vrij will leave Internazionale after eight seasons to join Panathinaikos on Monday. The 34-year-old defender has agreed a two-year contract with the Greek Super League club, according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The move concludes weeks of speculation surrounding De Vrij’s future. Inter had hoped to extend his stay, but the Dutch international has opted for a fresh challenge abroad. His decision follows a season in which he made 11 Serie A appearances for the Nerazzurri.

De Vrij’s departure marks the end of a six-year stint in Milan. He joined Inter in 2018 from SS Lazio, who had signed him from Feyenoord four years earlier. His final campaign was disrupted by a groin injury sustained late in the season, which also ruled him out of the World Cup with the Netherlands.

Panathinaikos will have the option to extend De Vrij’s contract by an additional year beyond the initial two-season deal. The Greek club confirmed the agreement will be finalised on Monday, with the defender set to sign in person.
