Sweden face France without Isak Hien after hamstring setback

Sweden will meet France in the round of 16 on 30 June at 23:00, but defender Isak Hien (27) is ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury in the third group‑stage match. The injury was confirmed during a press conference held after the game.

The hamstring problem emerged during Sweden's third group fixture, forcing Hien off the pitch and ending his tournament participation. Medical staff diagnosed the strain as severe enough to prevent any further involvement.

Graham Potter said, "It is really very sad for Isak and for us. He is an important player for us and of great importance for the group, both on and off the field." Potter added that the team will support Hien and expects him to return stronger.

Sweden entered the knockout stage after beating Tunisia, losing 5‑1 to the Netherlands, and drawing with Japan in the group phase. Those results placed them third in the group, setting up the clash with France.

Following the heavy defeat to the Netherlands, Hien faced criticism for his duels with Brian Brobbey. Potter defended his player, stating, "In the world we live in everyone wants to blame someone, and if you have to blame someone, it is me, not him."

The France‑Sweden encounter on 30 June will decide which side advances to face the winner of the Germany‑Paraguay match. The winner of that tie will move on to the quarter‑finals.
